Dallas Gas Explosion Threatens Area Residents and Workers

Southwest Industrial Gases, Inc in downtown Dallas had several explosions that caused a 3 alarm fire. Police evacuated businesses and residents within a half mile of the explosion and closed two nearby freeways.

Tanks of acetylene fuel and other materials could be seen exploding and throwing large pieces of shrapnel throughout the area near the I-30 and I-35 interchange, and both highways were shut down in the area. Industrial Boulevard and the Commerce Street bridge were also shut down.

So far, Two people were taken to Parkland Hospital in serious condition.

Debris, toxic fumes and chemicals could cause thousands of injuries, illnesses and possibly deaths in the area.
