Why Hire a Dallas Motorcycle Wreck Attorney?

The number of motorcycle wrecks that occur on our nation’s highways every year is astounding. Motorcycle wrecks often end up causing greater injury and damages due to a motorcyclist’s lack of protection. Deaths in motorcycle accidents are many times more likely to occur than in passenger auto accidents. In 2003, 3,661 motorcycle drivers were killed and almost 70, 000 were injured in care wrecks. The Department of Transportation reports that the rate of automobile accidents has substantially gone down in almost every automobile category with the exception of motorcycle wrecks…these have gone up substantially since the early days of the new millennium.

There are several factors that may contribute to motorcycle accidents. Seventy five percent of all motorcycle crashes involve a passenger vehicle. Of these, two thirds are the result of a passenger car driver’s negligence, which often fails to yield the right of way to a motorcyclist. 50 percent of all motorcycle wrecks are the result of alcohol usage.

There are a number of steps that may be taken to reduce the risk of motorcycle accidents. These occur within the first five months and five hundred miles of a cyclists riding experience. In order to avoid motorcycle accidents, cyclists must by trained in the proper accident avoidance maneuvers. Riding school may also train riders be better at avoiding accidents.

The use of motorcycle helmets and other protective gear is absolutely important in reducing injury and accidental death from motorcycle wrecks. Research shows that helmets are 29 percent efficient in preventing death in motorcycle wrecks and 67 percent efficient in preventing serious brain and spinal cord injuries.

Motorcyclist Dies in Accident Sunday Afternoon

A 70-year-old man crashed his motorcycle Sunday afternoon and later died at a nearby hospital. The man's name was not released, but apparently he had a heart attack around the time of the accident. The accident occurred near the intersection of Forest Lane and Josey Lane, south of interstate 635.

Motorcycle deaths have been on the rise in north Texas. While some of these accidents may be the result of factors beyond the control of the driver (as the one above), many times they are avoidable.

Dallas Motorcycle Officers Injured

Two Dallas motorcycle police officers were injured Tuesday night. According to the Dallas Morning News, the first accident occured at about 7 p.m. when an officer tried to stop a driver on South Westmoreland Avenue in west Oak Cliff. The driver of the car slammed on his brakes and the officer's motorcycle ran into the back of the vehicle, injuring the officer.

Minutes later, a second officer collided with a vehicle while on route to the first accident.

Both officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jeff Rasansky

Speeding Motorcyclist Dies in Collision

Just before a police officer pulled a motorcyclist over for speeding through a red light early Monday morning, the bike crashed into a Ford Mustang in Garland.

While the condition of the other driver involved in the collission at Jupiter and Kingsley roads is not known, the motorcycle's rider was taken to Baylor Medical Center in Garland where he died.

Motorcycle accidents happen far too often. While 80 percent are not the fault of the motorcyclist, in incidents like these motorcycle riders become cocky and careless and cause deadly collisions.

If you or someone you know has been injured in an accident involving a motorcycle and are not at fault, contact a motorcycle accident attorney to discuss your case.
Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jeff Rasansky

Motorcycle Rider Located 4 Hours After Fatal Crash, 911 Call

In this Dallas Morning News Article, the family of 38-year-old Thomas Davidson is questioning police as to why it took four hours to find Davidson's body after he flew from his motorcycle in an accident early Sunday morning.

The accident, which occurred about 2:50 a.m., was immediately reported to 911 by a witness who described exactly where Davidson lay after falling from an exit ramp at I-30 and I-45 in Dallas. The witness was told by 911 operators that there was no reason to stay at the scene. Police found the abandoned motorcycle right away, but left the scene with the possible assumption that another witness had taken the victim to the hospital. It wasn't until about 7:30 a.m. when another call was placed to 911 to report that two homeless individuals were searching through Davidson's pockets that the body was located and Davidson was pronounced dead. Family members' biggest fear now is that had Davidson not died from the impact, that finding him sooner may have saved his life.

There are obvious problems with the 911 system in Dallas. Information is often not relayed properly, or is just flat not taken in the first place. It is a stressful and demanding job, but also one that requires that dedicated and competant personnel are employed. Emergency personnel have to be given at least adequate information to reach the people that need their services. You can't fault the officers for not finding him when they aren't given the information that was relayed to the 911 operator. It's a tragic story and hopefully all sides will learn from this unfortunate turn of events.

If you or someone you know has been the victim of a motorcycle or motor vehicle accident, contact an automobile accident attorney to see if you might have a case.

Reckless Motorcyclist Falls from Exit Ramp

On the tails of our last post regarding a motorcyclist who crashed into a vehicle at 100-plus mph, the Dallas Morning News reported another motorcycle accident around 8 this morning. This time, the motorcycle driver was reported as weaving in and out of traffic and riding recklessly as he took the Highway 75 exit ramp onto the George Bush Turnpike. The man's motorcycle hit a railing and flew off his motorcycle over the wall of the ramp - falling 14 feet onto the road below.

At the time of this post, the condition of the motorcyclist was unknown.

Motorcycles are dangerous modes of transportation. While motorcycle riders are not at fault in more than 80 percent of motorcycle crashes, this is the second incident we have discussed recently involving carelessness on behalf of the motorcyclist. Contact an accident attorney if you have been the victim of a motorcycle crash or other motor vehicle accident as a result of someone else's reckless driving.
Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Jeff Rasansky

Motorcyclist in Hit-and-Run Accident in Critical Condition

Police in Arlington have yet to find the driver who crashed into a motorcycle on Highway 287 on Monday. Though the vehicle driver does not appear to be at fault in the accident that left the motorcyclist in critical condition, he or she fled the scene of the early morning accident.

Apparently, the motorcycle was driving faster than 100 mph when the collision occured. The police retained the bumper of the green Honda that was involved in the accident and are open to any leads in finding the car's owner.

Motorcycle accidents often result in severe injury or even death. While in most cases, these accidents are the fault of other drivers, road conditions, or bike malfunction, many motorcyclists seem to have the tendency to weave in and out of traffic as if they are invincible. Whether you have been injured as a result of a motorcyclist's carelessness, or you yourself has been the unfortunate victim while driving your motorcycle, contact an accident attorney to discuss your legal options.
