A child has died after being found unconscious while under day care supervision in Dallas. While her death was ruled accidental, her family is still completely shocked and angry.
Isabella Estep was pronounced dead after being transported from the Woodbridge Day School to Baylor Medical Center in Garland. Sources report that she somehow swallowed a rock and choked while inside the day care. At this time, we are unsure of WHO was responsible for her supervision. However, one thing is for certain:
Isabella should not have died.
This is something that was completely preventable. Sources report that the day care employees believed that Isabella was taking a nap at the time of her death. It took them TEN MINUTES to realize that something was wrong. And how could she be left unsupervised long enough to choke on the rock and no one notice???
The owners of the day care center made a statement to the press that they were concerned and devestated by the death. I'm sure no one is more devastated than the family of young Isabella. This is is DAYCARE NEGLECT. A problem that has become more and more prevelant as daycares become increasingly lackadaisical in their practices.
Someone must be held accountable for this tragedy. Our hearts go out to the Estep family in this difficult and tragic time.

I agree completely. This accident could've been avoided. Day Care is paid to watch and keep our children out of harms way. That is the whole purpose of day care.
My son went to Woodbridge and it was the best daycare money could buy. Every parent knows that the children are well taken cake of. Accidents happen. View their website and look at the pictures. The children are happy and the staff is very caring. My heart goes out the parents and staff.
I feel like yes it is tragic that the family lost a love but how can you put the blame anyone? God was ready for his angel to come back home. The daycare was under staff and where does it say that when you return inside from playin outside that you are suppose to check the childrens mouth for rocks! Stop looking for a reason to blame someone for something thats in gods hands.
My children attend Woodbridge, and they absolutely love their "school". They are 2 as well, and I feel that when I leave them there every day they are loved and cared for the way I would if I was with them all day. The staff is great and all know me by name. They love the children and would do anything to keep them out of harms way.I am not making excuses for what happened, but I am defending the fact that it was an accident and it very well could have happened at home. Pointing fingers does not bring a life back....
No, pointing fingers will not bring Bella back. But we attended the funeral of this precious child yesterday, and the devastation to so many lives is simply tragic. Yes, she is with God, in a better place, and we will see her again in heaven, there is comfort in that knowledge. The problem for me is that I have also placed my children in daycare (years ago) and even worked in daycare myself. You simply DO NOT LEAVE A 2 YR OLD UNATTENDED, PERIOD. No one is saying this was intentional. It was an accident. But accidents happen when we fail to pay attention. Those responsible for Isabella's safety failed her. I am very angry when I realize no one thought it was strange for her to be "taking a nap" and not even go over to see WHY she was laying down?? A 2 yr old doesn't just lay down and go to sleep at 4:30pm-her mom would have been there to pick her up in less than an hour. Daycare workers are told to keep children AWAKE at the end of the day, so parents don't have trouble getting them to sleep at night. Sadly, none of this will bring her back to us, but MAYBE it will call those responsible forward and keep this from ever happening again. The agony on the faces of her familiy as they buried this beautiful child is something I will never forget.
The state will decide if the daycare is at fault. I agree that it is unusual for a 2 year old to be allowed to nap at 4:30 when it's almost time to go home. Daycares are supposed to closely monitor children and keep them safe. If my child had been allowed to nap that late that would really bother me - just for the reason that you need to keep children on a schedule. A schedule is also key in noticing unusual behavior throughout the day - such as laying down at 4:30 for a nap. When she was laying there they should've realized it was "off-schedule" behavior and checked her out, signs of fever, sickness, and checked her airways. This is the 1st thing you learn in infant/child CPR. This child was going unconscious from choking to death, not napping. I'm sure if this was your child and this happened most of the above posts would be much different. There are reasons daycare must certify their instructors and if they're not going to properly apply their standards from certification, then what's the point? If your child successfully went to Woodbridge then consider yourself lucky, but this child never came home.
You are right, my children do and have done very well in that school. It was also my knowledge that Isabella just turned 2 a week before, and hadn't been in school for a few days prior to this tragedy. Maybe the teachers didn't know her "schedule" as of yet....and no, that is not an excuse, but there could be a million other reasons for the accident. No one brings up the person responsible for watching her outside. No one wants to talk about who didn't see her ingest the rock. They just want to point fingers at the person that didn't do CPR fast enough, and failed to save her life. This is a tragedy and again, I am sorry.
This IS a tragedy. But who among us would say "oh, it was just an accident, no one's fault" if our child was harmed? Not me. I'd be angry and hurt and beside myself with grief. I'd want answers. And Isabella's family is no different. Also, "the state" will not decide if this center is 'at fault'. They will only decide if any of their deficiencies contributed in any way to the death of this baby. Example: Untrained or poorly trained staff, failure to follow center/state guidelines, failure to provide a safe & age-appropriate environment for 2 yr olds. (who, as we all know, put everything in their mouths) I don't know where Bella found this rock, maybe another child brought it inside? Maybe rocks this size shouldn't be in a play area where toddlers are allowed? Maybe if someone had seen her lying there after only 2-3 minutes instead of 15 minutes, the paramedics could have done an emergency tracheotomy to save her life? Like I said, WE don't know what happened, but we do know that a child is dead, who shouldn't have died, and her family deserves answers. And they deserve to know that Bella didn't die for nothing: maybe changes need to be made at Woodbridge to protect all your children. Please have some compassion for this family while you are defending the daycare center. Their loss is immeasurable.
